In 2016 we scouted successfully the area around Bakhmaro, now we start a new adventure in the mountains of Adjara, Feb. 2016 © Jochen Schlutius

We have scouted a new location in the mountains of Adjara. We are currently in talks with the authorities to avoid tailing like in Bakhmaro.

Of course, we also thought about how we can avoid jerks to follow our cattracks. There are two main points:

On the one hand, access to the area is more difficult and takes longer. The high valley is far more secluded than Bakhmaro. On the other hand, there are no summer houses to rent there - also not for us. So we will improvise accommodation in an alpine hut.

The area is not as big as Bakhmaro, but very versatile. No one has ever tried catskiing in the mountains. The slopes have a length of 300 to 700 vertical meters. Although we have scouted possible cattracks in the summer, we will have to explore them with snow in December again. Then it also shows which mountains are the most efficient to access. First Lines are guaranteed...

For the test season, we will bring a PB300 W Polar from Bakhmaro to Adjara. The Snowat has again a heated cabin with 12 seats. We will also have a back-up cat to guarantee operations.

In the season we have to scout new cattracks and the best slopes. For this we will have Aslan in Adjara, as he is the best driver and I will be there as well to guarantee highest standards.

Accommodation

Alp-Hut, CatskiAdjara, powderproject, Berghütte
Our new AlpHütte on 2'400 meters in Adjara - still under construction, October 2019.

Beginning of September we have started to rebuild an alp hut in a remote alp village in Adjara. We constructed a new basement with toilets and shower, a kitchen on the first floor and 3 basic sleeping rooms under the roof. The sleeping rooms have bunk beds for 4 to 6 freeriders each.

Just enough space for one group inkluding guide and the team of snowcatdriver, mechanic, kitchen and housekeeping crew.  However, the situation in the alp hut will be basic and we cannot guarantee full functioning for next winter.
